The use of social media nowadays is very prevalent and it somehow paved a way to connect people from around the world. With that being said, social media is universal and by "universal", it offers a wide array of platforms to different audiences such as Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter and so much more. Me, personally I cannot deny the fact that I am one of the many who "cannot live" without these platforms.

If I am to pick a favorite among all the social media platforms, obviously I super love Instagram. I am pretty sure many of you will probably pick Facebook but I am off with the mainstream. To cut the story short, if you are like me who loves photography and fashion then this post is definitely for you!

Before anything else, I want to put a disclaimer that I am NOT AN EXPERT with this kind of "thing". Everything that I will be putting down below is based only to my own "taste" or perception but I hope you will learn at least a thing or two. SO HERE YOU GO !

1. MAKE SURE TO HAVE A "GOOD" CAMERA

Of course you need to have a camera but it does not mean to have an "expensive-for professional-be like a photographer" camera. As a starter, utilize whatever that you have or should I say use your SMARTPHONE dear! There are many smartphones available in the market that offers amazing camera features which are cheaper than really buying a DSLR or Fuji Film cameras (but if you can afford to buy it, why not right?) as long as it takes a clear shot then that will do fine. By the way, I only use my smartphone in taking pictures *winks

2. LIGHTING IS THE KEY

A good lighting is essential. Smartphone cameras rely on good lighting. If you do not want your photo to look super grainy then better consider this step. Remember, NATURAL LIGHTING IS BETTER THAN ARTIFICIAL ONE'S!

3. PLAY WITH YOUR ANGLES

Producing a good photo takes a lot of effort. That is why it is always better to know your features; may it be your facial or body feature for you to know what works on camera or not. Moreover, your photographer also play a big role as in a BIG ROLE because hello? What I mean is that you better find someone who works at least "good" in taking a photo and someone with enough PATIENCE.

4. DECIDE A "THEME" YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE

This step is kinda more on the subjective part since we have our different tastes but just to give you guys an idea I will show my IG "themes" for the past years.

As you can see above, I alternate the "cool' tone to Black and white photo just to have that contrast that I like
"Cool&Bnw" Feed

This theme is literal "Black and White"
"BnW" Feed

In this feed, I played with light colors and accentuate the lighting of my photos as well
"Pastel Feed"

Well it is pretty obvious that it is "saturated' meaning I played with warmer tones this time around
"Saturated" Feed

Unlike the previous photo, this one is "unsaturated" that is why I call this the "faded' theme
"Faded" Feed

You can actually find a lot of inspirations (bloggers, instagrammers, youtubers, etc) with your theme and experiment with what color palette you want to achieve.

5. USE QUALITY PHOTO EDITORS

In connection to the previous step, you can only achieve a "theme" if you use a good editor. There are actually tons in the app store or play store that are free to download but if I am to suggest download VSCO and LIGHTROOM. Well, they are not exactly "free" but I tell you they work magic!

"DG RAZON PRESET'

The photo above is edited using LIGHTROOM CC and I used the preset my friend (@ikanlamang) won from a giveaway of Degee Razon. But the photos I have shown above (photos in step no. 4) is edited using VSCO application. One tip of advice, keep it easy with the editing, you do not want your photo to look really "edited" if that makes sense.

6. CREATIVITY IS A MUST

Observe the things around you and take a picture with anything you think is "IG WORTHY". This may sound crazy but trust me it will work. Take a picture of the buildings, people, flowers, shadows, your coffee or tea with whatever as long as it's not "crappy".

7. POST AT THE RIGHT TIME

What I am trying to mean is that DO NOT UPLOAD CONSECUTIVELY just to know whether your photos look cohesive or not (I used to do these though). Post with interval for at least a minute or so because you do not want your followers to roll their eyes while scrolling on his or her feed. Another reminder: DO NOT POST PHOTOS THAT ARE SIMILAR CONSECUTIVELY that will be very boring.

8. PUT APPROPRIATE HASHTAGS RELATIVE TO YOUR POST

This is actually unnecessary but just in case you want your photos to reach in a wider audience, you can. In fact, there are a lot of "public groups" in Instagram wherein you can join and also promote your page by using a specific hashtag every "photo session" as what they are trying to call.

9. NEVER POST A CRAPPY PHOTO

I mean come on! If you want to achieve uniformity on your feed, do not post anything just because you feel like to post. Think of your format and think about a certain 'story" you want to share with your followers. In a business perspective : "Quality over Quantity"

10. DON'T MIND THE NUMBER OF YOUR FOLLOWERS

This is actually not a "tip" but this is the most important. Never ever say that "why should I beautify my feed, I only have a hundred of followers" I only have a hundred followers back then when I started posting and being active on IG, now I have two thousand (I know it's not that many and I am not bragging). Bottom line is that you can actually be "known" by fellow IG users if you have a "good" feed and it really takes time to gain such number, so better work it out now!

I guess that sums up my tips on "how to have a well curated instagram feed" I hope you liked it! Just always instill to your mind the very essence of social media which is to connect people.

Do you have any suggestions or tips on how to have a well curated Instagram feed as well? Feel free to comment down below and share your thoughts, that will be a great help to those gals out there :)

For now, enjoy making your own story!
